Kokako Café
Kokako is Grey Lynn's glorious, humming hub of damn good vegetarian fare and organic (house-roasted) coffee. The best part is that it's open from 6:30am - hello leisurely Monday-morning feasts. Service was quick, friendly, and relaxed, and within fifteen minutes of arriving I had a gorgeous spread laid out on the table - a mountain of vegan goodness known as 'The Energizer Spread', and a jar of green juice (My Green Goodness). Broccoli has never tasted quite so delicious. The portions were ample, and thanks to the nut and seed toast, cashew aioli, and avocado sprinkled with dukkah, it was a filling fix.
The cafe itself is mesmerising - an old post office evolved into a high-ceilinged, checkered-floored eatery, proudly perched on Grey Lynn's busiest intersection. Window seat highly recommended - today I was fortunate enough to observe a hobbling grey-haired man doling out 'free tickets to heaven'. I appreciated their music selection (Tame Impala and Frank Ocean, yessir), and am generally thankful they offer a decent environment to work and gorge at such an ungodly hour.
Kokako, you hip little thang - I can tell that this is just the beginning of an enduring (and freaking tasty) friendship.
